JACKSON, MI -- Sandhill Crane Vineyards is starting a new program this holiday season to help benefit Warm The Children foundation entitled "Warm The Children, Chill The Wine."
Calling all knitters and crocheters! From now through December 12, the winery is collecting wine bottle hats or hat & scarf sets. They're a great way to use up little bits of yarn in your "stash."
Starting at Sandhill Crane Vineyards' Holiday Open House on December 12, the winery will offer the hats and hat/scarf sets when customers purchase a bottle of our wine. They are free with a donation to Warm The Children. The hats or hat/scarf sets are great to dress up a gift bottle of wine, or decorate your home for the holidays.
If knitters would like to create hats or hat/scarf sets as a donation to Warm The Children, several free patterns are available online:
Chilled Wine Garb (pdf) - http://knitsburgh.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/chilledwinegarb2.pdf
Miniature Hats - www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/holminihats.htm
Innocent Hats (pdf) - www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/supergran/howtoknit/hatpattern_2006.pdf
Wine Hat & Scarf - www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=218683.0
The project is based on "The Big Knit," an annual charity fund drive in the U.K. for Innocent Drinks - www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/thebigknit/.
If knitters would prefer printed patterns, please contact the winery at 517-764-0679 to pick one up. Yarn is also available -- just call ahead.
Notes regarding purchases: One set per person. First come, first served. Minimum donation: $5.
