Left Foot Charley owns no palatial estate. Our energy is focused on fermenting, aging, and bottling wine. We searched for a unique space to create wine from the region's most significant vineyards. After 11 years, we found this space - in the heart of Traverse City. The Village, formerly the Northern Michigan Asylum, is one of the most extensive historical restoration projects in America.

The beautiful 63 acre campus is being painstakingly renovated by The Minervini Group. It was once home to 3000+ residents, most of whom worked, farmed, and walked freely among the beautiful architecture. Minervini's vision is to revive the historic site into a thriving community of homes, artists, restaurants, retail, a bakery, coffee houses and roaster, and now a winery.

Throughout Northern Michigan there are numerous small vineyards owned and farmed by individuals who do not have wineries. Left Foot Charley has teamed up with Northern Michigan's best 18 growers to produce wines that display the range of aroma and flavor found among the glacially tilled hills of our appellations. Lake effect, soil composition, vineyard aspect, and grower mentality shape these flavors individually. Each vineyard sells only to LFC and the commitments go beyond simple cash per ton arrangements. Through mutually established goals, their farms are defining terroir in our appellations. Our goal is to bring their work to the bottle.

Our location offers you a chance to taste the region's best grape varieties from the best vineyard sites without leaving town. Visit us - check out our interpretation of the winery experience.
