Hire a Driver
Gather a group of six or so-friends, couples, whatever works. Commandeer someone's mini-van, and pay your teenager, neighbor or other interested party to drive you around for the afternoon. The "designated driver" can get special food and drink at some of the wine trail events, and the cost to each passenger is minimal.

Biking is a fantastic way to take in the beauty of the countryside while enjoying the wineries. There are both paved and dirt bicycle trails throughout the state. But you don't have to stay on "designated" bike trails; there are scenic county roads through much of Michigan's wine country that make excellent bike routes.

Hop on your bike anywhere along the lovely Leelanau Trail. This 15-mile trail route stretches from Traverse City to Suttons Bay, and features cherry orchards, meadows, dunes, and plenty of streams, lakes and ponds. Old Mission Peninsula
Drive just north of Traverse City on M-37 to Bluff Road, or take Peninsula Drive north from Traverse City to where you can park on the roadside. Haul out the bike and enjoy fresh air and spectacular views of Grand Traverse Bay. Head inland to bike the five miles along M-37 that connect the four wineries on the Peninsula. You'll have to be pretty hardy to climb the hills to Chateau Chantal, but you'll be rewarded with an amazing landscape, overlooking both arms of the Grand Traverse Bay.
"Backroads Bikeways" is a network of 12 self-guided bicycle tours on paved roads, with lengths from 5 to 60 miles. The routes travel over streams and through rolling hills, with beautiful meadows, parks and forests.
